Description

In this lesson, I will teach ss how to use present perfect negative.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of present perfect negative in the context of activities they haven't done yet.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of about activities they have and haven't done.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T will begin the lesson by asking the ss several questions about things they have done. - T will ask questions to see if their family and friends have done any of the activities as well. - T will passively drill the target words and language when asking ss questions. - T will conduct OCFB as necessary.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- T will have ss read a conversation for gist between Kyle and Tammy that highlights the target words. - T will have ss answer questions at the end of the story that will ask about the tone of the conversation and test understanding of the target language. - T will put ss in breakout rooms for two minutes to compare answers. - T will conduct OCFB as necessary.

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- T will discuss have not and has not with the ss with the context of the paragraph. - T will conduct OCFB as neccessary.

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

MEANING - T will go over the meaning of the target language with the ss. - T will ask CCQ questions to test their understanding of the target language. Example: I haven’t lived in a tiny home yet. Does he stay in a tiny home now? (no) Has he resided in a tiny home before? (no) She hasn’t traveled to Brazil yet. Does she go to Brazil often? (no) Has she ever flown to Brazil? (no) They haven’t repaired a car before. Have they ever fixed a car? (no) Do they have someone else fix their car? (no) FORM - T will cover form with an interactive chart. - T will have ss read sentences for form. - T will drill sentences with ss to practice using the correct emphasis on words. Example I haven't traveled. We haven't traveled. He hasn't traveled. PRONUNCIATION - T will cover pronunciation of target language. Example - hasn't played /haeznt playd/ - haven't lived /havent livd/ - hasn't traveled /hazent travld/

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- T will have ss fill out a gap fill exercise to test their understanding of the target language. - T will have ss write down a list of things they have done and have not done using the language provided by the T. Example: have traveled, haven't traveled, has lived, haven't lived, has played, hasn't played - T will conduct OCFB as necessary.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- T will put ss into breakout rooms so they can ask each other questions about things they have done and things they have not done. - T will listen for any language issues. - T will conduct OCFB and DEC.
