Description

In this lesson, students will learn about pronouns 'this' 'these' 'that' 'those' in the context of a short text about children attending to school. Students will relate to the context by looking at the objects that they have close and far to them, and pointing it.

Procedure

Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'm going to have class in my room for the first time. That in order to show some objects that are far from my, in my wardrobe, and near to me, in my hand or my desk. Then i'm going to ask them to name two objects that are close to them. This activity is to make them aware of the objects that surrounds them and their distance. ICQ's --> ¿Are we going to name some things from our kitchen? (No, from the desk)

Reading for gist/ Vocab (5-8 minutes) • To introduce students to new and challenging words in the context of a short text

Show students a short text to read in 2 minutes. Then make them match pictures with their sentences and ask them to peer check via chat ICQ's --> ¿Are we going to listen or read? (read) ¿Do we have 5 or 2 minutes? (2) ¿We have to match the pictures or just look at them?

Vocabulary (10-12 minutes) • To introduce students to new and challenging words in the context of a short text about school

Highlight the new words contained on the text. Go one by one of these words to analyze meaning and pronunciation. Then analyze form indicating if it's a singular or a plural form. Is a student centered activity to let students figure out rules by themselves rather than give them an answer in the first place ¿What are we doing here? (learning the meaning of those words)

Controlled Practice (8-12 minutes) • To give students practice of the new learned words and their context

A Google Forms with a Fill the gaps exercise containing sentences with 'this' 'that' 'those' and 'these'. (6 minutes) Ask the students compare their answers via breakout rooms (5 minutes) before OCF. ¿How much time do we have? ¿Six or ten minutes? (Six) ¿We have to fill the blanks or write into our notebook? (Fill the blanks)

Freer Practice. (10-12 minutes) • To provide students practice in their productive skills

Show students a set of words where they'll have to choose from to create new sentences. Send them to breakout rooms to discuss their sentences and come back to OCF to Delayed Error Correction. In breakout rooms monitor all possibles doubts and errors. ¿We have to write sentences? (Yes) ¿The words are in the correct order already? (No) ¿We have 6 minutes to write the sentences? (Yes)
