Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. T greets students and begins lesson by displaying a photos on heritage sites and people volunteering on screen. T asks them to anticipate what the topic is about. 2. Learners work in pairs in breakout rooms and talk about the following questions: “Would you like to spend time in remote areas like a safari or indigenous regions?" "Is this kind of traveling for you?”

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- T covers MFP of the words: Gap year - Conscious - Restore - Learners work in pairs in breakout rooms (3 minutes). They match each word with the definition and part of speech. - T conducts OCFB and will model pronunciation, identify number of syllables and word stress, and have leaners repeat by drill. - Gap year: Brief period of time taken off before college CCQs: Is this time taken off before or after college? (before) Pronunciation: /ɡap/ /yir/ Form: Noun - Conscious: Aware of and responsive to what is around you CCQs: Could someone feel this way about their lack of experience? (yes) Pronunciation: /ˈkän(t)SHəs/ Form: Adjective - Restore: Bring back to its former condition. CCQs: Can you store a car? (yes) Pronunciation: /rəˈstôr/ Form: Verb

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

- T will send link to Google Slides with audio. Learners will play the audio in groups and complete the gist task. - Instructions: Listen to the audio quickly and answer the question - ICQ: Are we listening for detail or basic understanding? (basic understanding) - ICQ: How long will you take? (4 minutes)

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- T gives link to Google Slides with audio and 6 multiple-choice questions. - Instructions: Listen to the audio but in more detail and choose the best response. - Ss listen and complete the quiz individually (6 minutes). - Ss check answers in pairs within their breakout rooms. - T conducts OCFB

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- Instructions: Let's continue our discussion on the topic of voluntourism. Review the questions on the slide and share ideas: - Questions 1. Would you consider this type of vacation? 2. What type of voluntouring would you do? - Teach English - Animal Care - Sustainable agriculture - Turtle Conservation - Childcare - Construction and Renovation - Other - None of the above - Learners work in pairs and discuss this in breakout rooms (6-7 minutes)

Feedback (5-7 minutes) • To provide learners with feedback on the completion of the task and language

- T conducts OCFB and asks learners to share what their partners said about voluntourism. - T checks what they discussed in their pairs - T conducts OCFB
