Main Aims

  • For students to know some new words in the context of saving and spending money.

Subsidiary Aims

  • For students to speak using the new words in the context of spending and saving money.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T displays some questions to ss and asks: -Do you often pay in cash or credit? - When you need money whom you are going to ask? Family? friends? - Do you often give money to the waiter?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T displays ho1 and asks ss to answer the questions in pairs: 1. Do you often pay in cash or credit? 2. When you need money whom you are going to ask? Family? Friends? Why? 3. Have you ever needed a lot of money? What for? 4. Do you think we should save money? 5. When you are in a restaurant, do you give extra money to the waiter? T monitors and supports with feedback.

Highlighting/clarification (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-T introduces the new words and tells ss it is related in the context of money. -T tries to elicit the meaning of the new words and asks about the part of speech. - After eliciting the T writes the meaning, part of speech and tells ss to put each word in a sentence.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-T displays ho2 which is a gap filling and asks ss to work in pairs. - T gets one student to explain the task before break out rooms. Ss work in break out rooms and T monitors. - T discusses the questions and supports with feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-T displays ho3 and tells ss to work in pairs. -T asks ss to pick 3 words and gets the meaning, the part of speech and put each word in a sentence. -T monitors while in the break out rooms. - T listens to the ss answers and gives feedback.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- T divides ss into groups in the main room. - T writes a word for one of each group and gets him to explain the word to his pairs. - ss take turns and tries to guess the item. - T gives feedback. - T corrects the pronunciation of some words.
