Description

This lesson is in Unit 1, Part 2 on page 8,9 in a series of lessons on the topic of " Alive and Well". The first part of the lesson will integrate listening with reading and speaking through a jigsaw activity. The second part of the lesson will briefly review the use of present tenses-simple, perfect and continuous.

Materials

Abc Exercise 6 a from the coursebook"face2face" by Chris Redston with Gillie Cunningham

Main Aims

  • To give Ss practice in listening for gist, specific information and detail in the context of genealogy.

Subsidiary Aims

  • TO Review and give Ss practice in present tenses-simple, perfect and continuous.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Make Ss discuss what they know about their family tree in pairs/small groups. Make them think of two ways to research their family tree.

Prediction/Gist (8-10 minutes) • Make Ss predict

Introduce the topic of the listening and make students predict the answers to question in ex.2

Pre-teach Vocabulary (5-8 minutes) • To build their vocabulary before listening.

Pre-teach 5-6 words from listening-eliciting using visuals, examples, definitions etc.

Gist listening (4-6 minutes)

Listen to the importance of researching family;s history.

Detailed listening task 2 (7-10 minutes)

Listen to find the best places for finding the family history.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • TO provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In pairs, Ss will discuss whether they agree with what they have listened about genealogy. They will answer Yes, No question and choose true or false statements. Error Correction will be delayed.
