TP7, clothes and colors
Elementary level


In this lesson, ss will learn new vocabulary related to clothes and colors through test-teach-test. The lesson starts with a competition between the two groups. After that, the T will show them a picture and let them guess what the reading text is about. After the pre-teaching of vocabulary, ss will be asked to read the text and do some controlled practice some of them are directly related to the text and some of them are not. Finally, there will be a freer activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of Clothes and colors in the context of clothes and colors

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Me and my clothes in the context of Shopping for clothes


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T divides the class into two groups. Then one student from each group will be asked to create an outfit from the photos T will give to them The whole group will keep going and the winner group is the one that creates as many outfits as possible. After finishing, T asks each group to change seats and rate the other group's outfits.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

1-T will give the ss a diagnostic matching activity to examine what they know and what they don't know. 2- T demonstrates the first 3 words; what is the first one? T nominates a student and asks the rest of the class whether they agree or not. 3-Ss will work individually and will be given 5 minutes.T will monitor and take notes during the test.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

1-T asks the ss to put their pens down and she starts teaching, clarifying, and checking the meaning of problematic language, pronunciation, and drill, highlight form. Vocab: 1-jumper(noun): T shows them a picture 2-trainers(noun): T shows them a picture 3-a tie:(noun) T shows them a picture 4-designer clothes:(noun) very expensive clothes that are made by well-known fashion designers. T asks CCQs> can you find them in El Attabba? no> can anyone buy them? no can Abuhashima buy them? yes 5-fashion magazines:(noun) T shows them realia. 6-try on :(verb) when you want to buy a piece of clothing but first, you want to see if it suits you or not so you ............? CCQs >can we try on underwear clothes? no > Do we usually try on clothes after or before we buy them? before 7-send back:(verb) I bought a pair of shoes online, but when I received them they were too tight, so I'm going to........? CCQs> Do I send them back because I'm not happy with them or because I'm happy with them? not happy with them>Do I return my money when I send them back or not? I return my money. 2- Ss check their answers in pairs and the T monitors. 3-T shows them the answer key.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

After finishing they will read 3 paragraphs about 3 people talking about what they usually wear and how they love doing shopping, they will read for gist and match the photos with the speakers, then they will read for specific information.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will practice speaking using the TL T demonstrates with the students the first two questions. Which person from the article is similar to you? I like to do online shopping so Ronnie is similar to me. Do you like shopping for clothes? I don't like shopping for clothes. I get bored looking for a suitable piece, so I don't like it. What about you Randa? Which one from the article is similar to you? after she replies T tells them to ask each other in open feedback the teacher puts them in pairs: now ask and answer the same question.
