Description

Students will learn new vocabulary words and use them in the form of a gist task which will involve searching for the key vocabulary words followed by two controlled tasks that will involve reading for detail. Followed by OCF.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have practiced reading, for specific information in the context famous film producers.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice collocations describing life events. To practice guided speaking.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Display movie posters. Ask them if they've seen any of the movies on the wall. What kinds of movies do they enjoy?

Orientate students to the text (1-2 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it more interesting

Today we're going to be reading about the life of a director named James Cameron. He's a famous movie producer from the United States, and some of you probably recognize a few of his films...

Pre-reading (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1A pg 42: fill in the gaps using verbs. Check in pairs. Display the answers

Pre-Teach Vocabulary (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with the necessary vocabulary to better understand the text in the next stage.

MPF: a script, a robot, successful, 3D, a billion, producer

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

3B pg 42: allow students to read alone and fill in the blanks to the text. Then check in pairs. Display the answers.

2nd Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Allow students to read a 2nd text involving Adel Imam so that they can again search for detail. Followed by a compare and contrast OCF.
