4 types of sentences

Description

In this lesson, students will learn about the 4 types of sentences and how to differentiate between them. We'll start with a an introductory guessing what the lesson will be about, brief introduction of what a sentence is and then introduce the types in a colorful presentation. we'll have some practice in between the 4 types to avoid confusion . Then we'll have some practice producing different types of sentences with a spinning wheel on the smart board. After that we'll explain the Homework and then have some free practice time where they do mini role plays.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the 4 types of sentences in English.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of How to identify each sentence and produce one of each type.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Welcome the students and ask about their day. Then show them the title and have them guess what we're going to cover in the lesson.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Start explaining the first two types of sentences using the PPT while eliciting as much information as I can from the students.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Have them do an interactive activity in the ppt to confirm their understanding.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To introduce the rest of the types without confusion.

Introduce Command sentences and exclamation sentences.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Using the spinning wheel they will get to produce sentences while being monitored by the teacher. After that the teacher will explain the Homework .

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Have each two students do a mini role play that includes the two types of sentences at a time . ( providing them with an example ) e.g.: what are you doing ? I am eating berries. 2nd role play What an amazing song! Lower your voice.
