Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for giving advice in the context of writing a friendly letter to a friend that will go next school year to fifth grade

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of likes and dislikes in the context of writing a friendly letter to a friend that will go next school year to fifth grade
  • To provide product writing practice of a Friendly letter in the context of a friendly letter to a fourth grader

Procedure

Next school year (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks Ss if they would like to know what to expect from next school year, and elicit them to think how can they achieve that.

Exposure to the product (friendly letter) (5-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming task through reading

T draws the layout of the friendly letter on the board so as for them to get familiar with its components.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T provides examples of giving advice using "should". "You should do your homework on time." "You should respect the classroom's rules."

Productive Task Friendly Letter (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

By following the layout provided by the teacher. Ss will write a friendly letter to express their experiences, likes and dislikes about 5th grade. And using the TL provide some advice for the next school year to his/her fourth-grade body.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

In pairs Ss check for errors
