In this lesson: Ss will have a Lead-in about the aim of the lesson. It's about a picture about health. To prepare them for the topic, I will ask them a question about healthy and unhealthy food. Then, I’ll show them some pictures to know the meanings. I will ask them to put the words into sentences. For controlled practice, Ss will answer the question 1B at SB p. 58 and they will make matching between the words and the pictures through pair work at SB p. 156. For semi controlled practice Ss will answer the question 2 at p. 156. The last would be the feedback.

Materials

Abc • Speakout Pre-intermediate 2nd edition, student book. Clare . Wilson, BBC

Main Aims

  • -for students to understand and use the following lexical items related to sport. (e.g. fizzy drinks, junk food, vegetables, etc.)

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to speak about how to keep fit and to be healthy.

Procedure

Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To engage students.

-T greets Ss and shows Ss a picture about the topic. -Ss are given two minutes to discuss the picture. - T elicits from the answers that Ss have an idea about the topic.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a question.

T shows a question "Do you like healthy or unhealthy food ? Why?" on a slide related to the topic "Health". T asks Ss to read the question answer it. T elicits from Ss the importance of healthy food and the dangerous of unhealthy food.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T shows Ss five pictures that are related to "Health" . Ss will elicit these five words. They are fizzy drinks, junk food, stress, alcohol and vegetables. T will make correction for the students’ answers.

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T asks Ss to put each word in a sentence according to the same exercise that was in the last stage by using Iike or I don't like. Ss make the sentences. T asks students if they have another example.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T asks Ss to answer the question at task 1 (B) p. 58 at SB. T asks students to to work in pairs through breakout rooms and group the vocabulary under the headings food/drink, exercise and general habits. T chooses Ss to answer. T asks Ss to match the pictures at p. 156 at SB to their meanings. T checks the answers of the students.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T asks Ss to answer the following questions: What is good or bad for your health? "individually" according to the first question of controlled practice and which sports are popular in your country? Which have you tried? "pair work" according to the second question. T chooses some students to answer..

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T asks Ss to work in groups and answer the following questions: What do you do to keep fit and healthy? Do you do anything which is not healthy? T choose Ss to answer the questions.
