Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson the students will have practices the listening skill in the context of road trip

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in questions in the context of road trip
  • To provide practice of Impartives in the context of giving directions on a road trip

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T shows the Ss a picture about a family is on holiday -T asks the Ss the following questions: 1-Are they family? Yes 2-Are they on holiday? Yes -T listens to the Ss answers -T shows the Ss another 2 questions related to the topic of the lesson 3-When you travel to a new place, Do you use google maps or you ask other people? why? 4-Do you enjoy traveling with your family? -T tells the Ss that they will share their answers together about them and they have 2-3 minutes -T asks the following ICQ: Will you ask the 4 questions or the last 2 ? last 2 -T asks the Ss to stand up and divides them -T monitors the Ss to check them -T starts WC feedback to listen to the Ss by nominating 2 or 3 students randomly

setting context (2-3 minutes) • To generate interest in the topic of the text

-T shows the Ss the same picture in the lead-in stage for the family and asks them "Do you know where are they/what's this country?" -T listens to the Ss and answers them if they couldn't guess the country (Ireland) -T tells the Ss the name of the family (The Carter family) and tells the Ss who are they (Tim,Suzy,mum and dad) -T tells the Ss that " we will listen to the story of this family today on their holiday after checking some words together

Pre-teaching (5-8 minutes) • To prevent potentially blocking words for the students before the listeing

-T shows the Ss the words in slide no.4 and asks the Ss to match them with the right picture for each word -T asks the Ss to check their answers in pairs -T listens to the Ss answers to check them -T can drill some of the words if the Ss want to know their pronunciation or ask CCQs if they are still confused about their meanings

While-Listening 1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with a reason to listen for the main idea for the topic

listen and number the pictures -T shows the Ss 5 pictures about this family -T asks the Ss " Do you know what's the first picture?" No -T tells the Ss they will listen to the story of the family to know which picture is number1,2,3,4 and 5 -T models with the Ss (if it's needed) as the following: -T asks the Ss to listen and say what's the first picture from what they have understood -T pauses the audio and asks the Ss about the first picture , then writes the answer on the picture on the board (1-E) -T gives the Ss the sheet ,and then plays the audio from the beginning -T monitors the Ss to check if they need any help -T asks the Ss to check their answers together -T shows the Ss the models answer 1-E / 2-A /3-C /4-B /5-D

While-Listening 2 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening tasks

-T shows the Ss 2 pictures which show that the Carter family at the hotel -T tells the Ss that the family now at the hotel and there are 2 problems with them , then asks them to listen to know what are the 2 problems -T asks ICQs (if it's necessary) as the following: 1-Does the family have one or two problems? two 2-Will you write or speak? write -T plays the audio for the Ss -T asks the Ss to check their answers together -T listens to the Ss answers about the two problems

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide the students with an opportunity to respond to the ideas introduced in the text

Questions about the story -T models with the Ss the activity as the following : -T shows the Ss the slide no.7 in the PPT and asks any of the Ss to ask her the question no.3: Does their mother feel worried? why? -T answers the question" Their mother feels worried because their dad drives fast and she wants him to slow down" - T asks the same student about his/her opinion to listen to it -T asks ICQs as the following: 1-Will you answer one question or all of them? all of them 2-when you say why, will you share on reason or all? All -T divides the Ss , and gives them the sheet they will use -T monitors to check the Ss and writes down their errors Role play:(if there is extra time 8-10 minutes more) -T shows the Ss a picture in slide no.8 in the PPT -T asks the Ss the following questions to set the task: 1-Are they in the hotel? Yes 2-Do the family have a problem in the hotel?Yes 3-what's the problem? The hotel is full -T tells the Ss they have 5 minutes to work in pairs to find a solution for this problem as (student A) will be the receptionist ,and (student B) will be the father in this family who will think of this solution if it’s good for his family or no , and why -T models the role play with one of the Ss -T asks the following ICQs: -Will you find a solution for the hotel problem or the parking? The hotel -T divides the Ss to work together and gives them 5 minutes to prepare their conversation -T monitors the Ss while preparing their conversation to check if they need any help -T asks the Ss to start their conversation (role play) -T monitors to check the Ss and writes down their errors

Feedback • To correct the students errors and to praise good use of it

-T starts WC feedback to listen to the Ss answers -T writes the Ss errors on the board to correct them with the Ss
