Main Aims

  • Ss will have developed their ability to read for gist and specific information with particular reference to a psychometric test.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Ss will have developed their oral fluency with specific reference to the assessment of the psychometric test.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Show Ss a picture of some successful characters and ask: What is common among them? - Why do you think they are successful? - Open Class Feedback - Work in groups to answer the question. - What does success mean to you? - Which of the points in Ex 1 are the most\ least important to you? - OCF

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Pre Teach blocking vocabulary Vocabulary concentrate on, to be jealous, to distract someone, a workaholic For procedure, please look at my LAS

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

- Ss read the test alone and answer it individually. - Ss react to the test through answering the following question: If you haven't got a job, imagine how you would react? Ss give reasons to their answers. - OPF

While-Reading/Listening #2 (6-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- Ss read the assessment on page 140 alone. - After you read the assessment, can you allocate yourself in which part are you in without calculating your marks? What do you think the closest part to your grades? Then calculate your score. Go and check were your predictions or guesses ok? ( alone) Now share your answers with your group. T monitors and ask ss about their partners as a content feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

After you shared your ideas Do you think your assessment is fair? Do you think this assessment is a good test to assess you language? What are the most\least useful questions? Why? What about Arabic does it have similar tests?
