Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students wil have developed their ability to read for gist and specific information with particular reference to a context life of a TV presenter

Subsidiary Aims

  • by the end of the lessen students will have have developed their ability to read and listen for gist and specific information in the context life of a TV presenter.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask students what they know about the (First Date).

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Show the picture. Ask CCQs : Are they friends? (maybe) Are they playing together or against other? (against other). Not so important. Just ask the ss simple questions, such as: What’s Mark looking for? (a wife) How many women is talking to? Show a picture of well-known Egyptian presenter and ask: What’s his/her job? If they can’t tell you, you tell them. Other vocabulary to pre-teach: contestant, game show, go running, to record something on your DVD – best to show the ss with your smartphone.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Demonstrate this activity very carefully. Put students in two groups. A and B. Give a copy of student A to group A. and the copy of student B to group B. Ask them to work in pairs in the same group. Ask them to read the text about Max's weekend. Ask them to complete the questions at the bottom of the page. Tell them there is a gap for each word in the question. Demo with the class. Ask the ss to answer the first two all together. Check the answers. Provide answer keys.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Demo this part very carefully. Ask the ss to give you two question examples. Ask the students to write wh/questions. Keep the As and Bs separate. Provide answer key. Allow ss to check on their own. Drill two/three of the questions with the class. Fall-rise intonation. Who does Max live with? Where does max live? What does Max do after breakfast? Ask the students to work in pairs A student with B student. Ask the not to see each other sheet. Are you going to look at your friend’s paper? Ask students to take turns to ask questions. Student A will ask first. When they finish ask them to compare answers. Get ss to tell you about Max. He gets up…He lives….

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Demo this part very carefully. Ask the ss to give you two question examples. Ask the students to write wh/questions. Keep the As and Bs separate. Provide answer key. Allow ss to check on their own. Drill two/three of the questions with the class. Fall-rise intonation. Who does Max live with? Where does max live? What does Max do after breakfast?
