  • To provide clarification, review and practice the form and usage of simple present with can- cannot.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To make the student practice reading.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1-"The Broken Telephone Game" Divide the student in two groups. One student from each team comes to the teacher to read the sentence silently. Each student whispers to the next number of his team and so on tell the line finish. The last student needs to come to the teacher and tell her what she heard. If they have a correct answer let them write the sentence on the board. ICQs: How many groups in this game?(two) You will say or write the sentence? (say) You will say the sentence loudly or silently? (silently)

Exposure / gist task. (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation / to use the rule indirectly.

The teacher will provide a poem for the student and read it, then start a friendly discussion with the girls about the poem. Ask some ICQs: so, are you going to work in pairs or groups? ( pairs) how much time do you have for this activity? (3 minutes) who starts asking questions? (the one with the odd number) choose the correct answer. I....... (can, cannot) teach you I ...... Clarification (8-10 minutes)

-Here I will present it with power point where they can further clarify the rule . -Elicit other examples of sentence and discuss the cases. CCQs: -What dose can-cant express? (ability} -Dose it change according to the subject?(no) -which form should be the verb? (base form)

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ask the student to change the following sentence from positive to negative 1- She can drive a car. 2-They can travel to Paris. 3-I can draw in a professional way. 4-we can pass the test easily. Choose the correct answer? 1-He can (read - reads) the story. 2-we can (write - to write) poems. 3-They cannot (work - works) together. 4-It can (fly - flies). ICQs: Are you going to work in pairs or groups?(pairs) How much time do you have?(3 minute) What are you going to do?(change from positive to negative)

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ask the student to write two sentences using can and cant on there note book and then exchange the note book with the partner and write if she agree or disagree with her friend statement, they have four minute to finish the task. ICQs: -Are you going to work in pairs or groups?(pairs). -How many time do you have?(four minute). -you will write or say your sentence?(Write).

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
