Main Aims

  • By the end dof this lesson the students will have practiced using verb be in the context of introducing themselves and other people

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice through questions and giving information about other people in the context of introducing themselves and others

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T shows the Ss 2 pictures of some people who meet each other for the first time and asks the Ss 1-Are they friends?no 2-what's the first thing you say when you meet your anyone for the first time? (Hi/Hello) 3-What are the questions you ask?(What’s your name? How are you today?/how old are you?) -T writes the Ss answers on the board -T tells the Ss that they will be friends who meet each other for the first time" , and then models with one of the Ss the conversation -T asks the following ICQs: -Will you ask what's your name only? No -T divides the Ss to start their conversation -T asks the Ss to switch their partner -T starts WC feedback to listen to the Ss answers by nominating 2 o3 of the Ss randomly

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-T shows the Ss a picture for 2 girls in which there is information about them (age/jib/name /nationality )and asks them "who are they?" -T listens to the Ss answers

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-T writes the first sentence on the board(I am 23 years old) and elicits the other information in a full sentence from the Ss and writes them too as the following: 1-what's my job? I am a teacher 2-who is she? she is Mai 3-what is her nationality? she is Egyptian

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-T asks the Ss CCQs about the sentences as the following: 1- I am 23 years old" Is this my age or job?" age 2-I am a teacher? " Is this my job? yes 3- She is Egyptian" Is this her country or nationality?" nationality 4-Are they (name/age/nationality) personal information? Yes -T asks the Ss about the first sentence( I am 23 years old )" Is I a subject or noun?"subject -T draws a table on the board from 2 columns ( subject and verb be) and writes in the first column I -T asks the Ss about (am) is it a noun or verb? (verb) , and then writes it in the second column -T asks the same questions about the sentence no.3 and writes the subject and verb be in the table -T elicits the other subjects and verb be from the Ss and complete the table -T asks the Ss about sentence no.1" Do we say it I am 23 or I'm 23?" I'm 23 - T drills with the Ss verb be contractions and writes them on the board

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-T shows the Ss the exercise on p.123 and asks them to complete the sentences with am/is/are -T models with the Ss ( if it's necessary) as the following: -T writes the first sentence on the board ( I.....French) and asks the Ss am / is/ are?"( am) -T tells the Ss the page number -T asks the Ss to check their answers together -T starts WC feedback to check their answers

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-T shows the Ss a sheet in which there i information about different people -T models the activity with the Ss as the following: -T shows the Ss a picture about the first person(Dalal abd El-Aziz) and writes on the board 61 -T asks the Ss" How old is she?" and writes the answer after listening to them( she's 61 years old -T asks ICQs as the following: 1-Will you write about age only? No 2-Will you write about one person or all of them? all of them -T asks the Ss to share their answers together -T starts WC feedback to check the Ss answers

Productive (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

productive 1 : A&B questions -T models the activity with the Ss as the following: -T shows the Ss the questions on the PPT and asks any of them to ask her question no.2(How are you today?) -T answers the questions "i'm fine" and asks the same student"and you?" -T asks ICQs as the following: 1-Will you ask one question or all of them? All 2-Will you say only fine or i'm fine? I'm fine -T divides the Ss and gives them the sheet they need to ask each other -T monitors and writes down the Ss errors productive 2: Introduce your friends -T tells the Ss that they will speak about two of their friends to introduce them and they can share a picture with them -T asks the Ss about the the information they can share together(name/age/country/nationality) -T writes their answers on the board or using the PPT -T models the activity (if it's necessary) by showing the Ss a picture of her friend and sharing information about her as the mentioned points on the board -T asks the following ICQs: 1-Will you speak about one or two? 2-Are they family members or friends? Friends -T gives the Ss 2-3 minutes to prepare their answers -T divides the Ss to start sharing their information -T monitors and writes down the Ss errors productive activity 3: -T shows the Ss a group of cards and tells them that in each card there is a picture for on of the family members and we will introduce them like our friends -T models with one of the Ss by asking him/her to choose any card -T asks this students what's his/her name? and where's he/she from? -T gives the Ss 1-2 minutes to prepare their answers -T asks ICQs as the following: 1-Will write only the name? no 2-Will you write about one person only? No -T divides the Ss to start sharing their information -T monitors and writes down the Ss errors Feedback: -T starts WC feedback to listen to the Ss answers -T writes the Ss errors to check these errors with them
