Main Aims

  • To provide practice on the use of “wish, hope and it’s time” in the context of Dad and daughter conversation

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show slide 1 with 3 images, ask SS what differences do they notice between I wish, I hope, it's time

Exposure (7-9 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Explain SS out TL for this lesson is wish, hope and It's time Play audio (2:43 min) to expose SS to TL, ask them to pay attention to the conversation and write some examples of the TL they hear and share in OCFB. Show slide 3 Ask a SS to read these sentences: I wish you'd stop talking about the accident I wish I knew where she was I wish you were coming to the gig I just wish we could get a recording contract Ask the group if these sentences talk about imaginary situations in the present or future OR things that happened in the past. Elicit from SS which verb form follows I wish.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

MEANING show slide 4 to explain the difference between wish and hope and meaning of it's time. Mention one example for each one. FORM. show slide 5 for Wish Explain the most common structures + verb form and what these are used for, ask SS to asign an example to each structure Show slide 6 for Hope and it's time, Explain structure and offer one example for each one

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Share link with google form, ask SS to solve it individually, they will have 2 minutes to send their answers. Review OCFB, correct if needed.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ask SS to share their wishes about their life now or in the future. If there is enough time, set BOR with couples and ask SS to talk about this, otherwise share this conversation among the group. DEC
