In this lesson, students will learn to write an informal email

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a email in the context of lockdown

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about ockdown in the context of lifestyle changes

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1) Students will predict what the class is about 2) Students will be sent to break out rooms and will answer 3 questions related to the topic

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

1)Students will read a short email (Sample) and will be asked to answer a gist question 2) Students will identify the layout of the email, by classifying their parts with their names

Useful Language (6-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1) Students will analyze formulaic language by labeling the exponents to their corresponding functions. This will be done in pairs and in breakout rooms so that students can work in pairs and discuss their answers 2) Students will be sent to main room and teacher will focus on form by breaking down the fixed phrases with the help of learners 3) Teacher will ask students to classify the language depending on formality. This will be done as OCFB 4)

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1) Students will be asked to write an email

Feedback and Error Correction (5-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

1) Students will be asked to check their peers' work by ticking a checklist of things they had to include. This will make them more aware of their own work 2) Teacher will conduct DEC to clarify en errores made by learners
