Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, the students will have understood the difference in usage between "make&do" in the context of doing activites

Subsidiary Aims

  • For Ss to practice speaking using different varitions of"make&do"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T greets Ss and shows Ss a video about two people arguing about their stuff. Ss will talk about the video.T elicits from the Ss’ sentences that they have interest in the topic.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text

-T shows the Ss a text with different variations of the target language (make,do). - T asks Ss to underline the expressions with (make,do) and guess if they are used correctly or switched. - Ss meet in breakout rooms to do the task and the teachers monitors. - Ss give their answers in the main room and T gives them FB.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target lexis

- T uses the Ss answers for the previous text to highlight the target language. - Ss are asked to sort out the target language variations in the table (ex.2).

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target lexis

- T clarifies MFP of the target language using the table in ex.2 - T gives reasons for different usage of the target language. - T asks some CCQs to make sure Ss are ready for practice

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and provide practice with focus on accuracy

- T asks Ss to fill in the gaps in ex.3 using the expressions form the table in ex.2 - Ss meet in breakout rooms to do the task. - T monitors the breakout rooms and takes notes. - Ss give their answers in the main room. - T gives Ss feedback .

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- T shows Ss 5 incomplete sentences and ask Ss to complete the second half of each sentence. - Ss are given 2 minutes to prepare their answers - Ss share their won sentences in the main room. - T gives Ss FB about their sentences .

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target lexis to develop fluency

- T asks Ss to speak about their own experiences using the target language. -Ss meet in breakout rooms and exchange share their sentences. - T monitors Ss in the breakout rooms and takes notes. -Ss share their discussions in the main room.

Feedback • To give Ss feedback addressing any grammar or pronunciation issues spotted in the discussion.

- T, using the notes taken while monitoring the groups in the breakout rooms and the main room, presenting Ss’ errors discovered while listening to their discussions. - T consolidates and praises the good points in the discussion.
