Description

In this lesson, students will learn more about the present perfect simple and continuous in the affirmative forms. The lesson starts with a lead-in that introduces two songs that include the target language of the lesson. Then, the students will be exposed to two texts that have the target language and in groups, they will try to answer some questions about the text. After that, the students will be shown some examples and the teacher elicits the target language of the lesson. Next, they do a quiz on the target language and finally have a discussion using the target language and the teacher gives them feedback using delayed error correction.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the present perfect simple and continuous tenses in the context of completed actions and ongoing or repeated actions in the past.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of the present perfect simple and continuous tenses in the context of ongoing actions and completed achivements.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T greets Ss and shares his screen. T asks Ss to listen and take notes to fill in the gaps. - T plays the audio tracks and Ss take notes. - Ss share their answers and T gives some hints about the grammar.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- T shows Ss the text and asks them to answer some questions. - T divides Ss into groups or pairs, according to the Ss number, and sends them to breakout rooms to answer questions. - Ss discuss the questions in the breakout rooms. - T shows the Ak to the Ss.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- T elicits the target language from sentences and Ss figure out its use.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- T elicits the differences between the Present Perfect Simple and Continuous forms. - Ss try to figure out the function and form and T asks them to provide more sentences.

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T divides Ss into groups and assigns a secretary to write sentences T gives a picture and instructs Ss to write sentences about what the people have been doing recently. T asks ss to write as many sentences as possible in a limited time. T counts the sentences then announces the winner

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- T sends Ss a link for a quiz. - Ss do the quiz separately. - T announces the winner.

Free Practice (3-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- T asks Ss to talk about things they have been doing recently and their achievements. - Ss go and discuss in the breakout rooms about the topic. - T monitors and takes notes. - T gives Ss feedback.
