To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a recorded speech of a Psychologist explaining your position in the family and its influences on your personality in the context of family members, personality adjectives.
To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of the listening and filling the chart.
Procedure (36-45 minutes)
Show sts the picture and elicit their answers such as who is the oldest, youngest. and middle child etc. then ask sts about their position in their family. Are you the oldest child, a middle child, the youngest child, or an only child?
Continue to ask students to describe each other, however to categorize their adjectives as 'physical' and 'emotional' traits. Have them write the words on the board on a drawn chart. Hand Out one will be given to the students to Test their prior knowledge on these words.
Have sts listen to a psychologist talking about the influence your position in the family has on your personality and complete the chart by writing 4 more personality adjectives in each column. Then compare with a partner and check their answers. A fill-in-the-blank hand out is given to the students in pairs. Using sentences that describe the words, students must match the words with their dictionary definitions. After the 16 examples, students must read out the examples in the class. The second part of the worksheet includes matching opposite adjectives, which help build on their foundation. The last part of the hand out includes the negative prefixes of the positive adjectives. Have sts write down three adjectives for their own personality that they can remember from the Vocabulary Bank and also another three adjectives for their partner. Then ask their partner what they can say about their personality and talk about it. This work will encourage sts be independent as well as group work while solidifying the vocabulary.
