Description

In this lesson, Ss will have a warm-up about some sentences that have the present perfect tense . To prepare them for the structure, I will elicit the past participle through writing and pronunciation tasks. The lesson starts with an exercise about writing past participle. This is followed by pronouncing verbs which have rhyming past participles. Finally, there is some controlled practice through ask and answer the questions and a game.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of the past participle in the context of bought, caught, grown, etc.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice listening to the pronunciation of some specific words

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • Create interest in a writing activity about the present perfect tense

-T greets Ss. -Ss are given three minutes to discuss three sentences about the present perfect. - T elicits the past participle.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T explain the past participle through the table that is found on the slide of the power point Ss practice irregular verbs with each other in pairs.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T plays the audio to the students to listen to the pronunciation of the words of the past participle. Ss matches the verbs that have the same sound.

Clarification (6-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T gives students a task to choose the correct answer. Ss answer multiple questions through a game.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T give Ss yes/ no questions to answer. Ss answer the questions.
