In this lesson, students learn about the story of Saroo Brierly through reading the text provided about him. The lesson starts by a discussion about the movies "lion" which describes the remarkable story of Sarro Brierly. some controlled practice activities will be provided to ensure that students do understand the story of Sarro.

Main Aims

  • For students to able to read for gist and for details in the context of the story of Saroo Briely.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students will be able to know the meaning of some new words and write about Sarro Briely as well.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To show students a picture of Saroo Briely and ask them is they have seen him before. To show students the trailer of the movie "lion" and ask them if they know the story of it.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1. Ask students this question: Do you think Saroo Briely is a successful person? 2. Do you think he will meet up with his mother again? 3. listen to students' response with no confirmation that their answers are correct or not.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1- To ask students to scan the text for 2 minutes and get the overall idea and check their answers as well. 2. T provides students with the correct answers.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

2- To ask to read for gist and provide them with some ICQs: - Where was Saroo born? - Is he still alive? - How did he meet his mother? - How did his life story turn into a movie? - How did he end up adopted by a family? - was he happy going to Austalia?

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

(Writing activity) -To ask students to write 5 facts they knew about the story of Saroo Breirly and discuss them with their peers. - T listens to their answers and provides them with feedback.
