Description

In this lesson: Ss will have a lead-in about moving abroad. To be ready for listening, T will elicit the new vocabulary and Ss will predict the topic of the listening. Ss will listen for specific information to answer the questions and then listen again for more details to complete a table and practice their listening skills. For the free practice, Ss will have a discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of moving abroad. The last stage would be a feedback after the discussion.

Main Aims

  • For Ss to practice listening for specific information and listening for details in the context of "Moving abroad"

Subsidiary Aims

  • For Ss to practice speaking through a discussion in the context of "The advantages and disadvantages of moving abroad"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T greets Ss and shows Ss PowerPoint slides about moving abroad. Ss will respond to the questions and the pictures in the slides. T elicits from the answers that they have interest in the topic.

Pre-teaching vocabulary (4-6 minutes) • To make the text easier to understand

-T shows 4 different words or phrases related to the listening . - Ss work in groups guessing the meaning of the words. -T elicits from the students the meanings of the 4 vocabulary items. -T asks CCQ’s on the 4 different vocabulary items. -T ask Ss to repeat pronunciation, showing the written form along with its stress.

Prediction (2-3 minutes) • To activate bacground knowledge and prepare learners for the recording

- T shows a picture to Ss about what a person misses while being abroad . - Ss start making sentences about that person misses. - T elicits that Ss become aware of the recording topic.

While-Listening Activity (Listening for specific information) (8-10 minutes) • To practice listening for specific information in the recording

-T gives Ss task to listen to 6 different people talking about what they miss when they’re away from their home. . -Ss listen to the recording and answer where these people from and where they are now . - Ss give their answers to the two questions - T shows Ss the AK

While-Listening Activity (Listening for Details) (10-12 minutes) • To gain a deeper understanding of the listening

-T shows the Ss the table to be completed in the activity. - T asks some ICQs to make sure Ss understand the activity. - Ss listen to the audio track and write the answers while listening. - Ss meet in breakout rooms for peer checking and discussing. - T shows Ss the AK and discuss about their answers.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To give Ss a chance to practice speaking skills based on their understanding of the listening.

-T gives a disadvantage of moving abroad and another sentence about how it can be an advantage. - T asks Ss to think of more examples. -Ss meet in breakout rooms and share their opinions to give more advantages and disadvantages of moving abroad. -Ss share their opinions in the main room.

Feedback (Error Correction) (3-5 minutes) • To give Ss feedback addressing any grammar or Pronunciation issues spotted in the discussion.

- T, using the notes taken while monitoring the groups in the breakout rooms and the main room, presenting Ss’ errors discovered while listening to their discussions. -T elicits from Ss the correct answers
