Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To make student familiar with the new characters and revise some family words

-T tells Ss that they are going to meet some new characters -T draws an outline family tree on the board with pictures of Kate, Ed, Mom, Dad, and (cousins) Fin and Libby. -T points to Kate and then Mom and says "This is Kate's Mom" -T points to Ed and asks "Who is this?" -T elicits different answers for all the characters to practice and revise family words and possessive s.

Pre-Reading (5-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-T focuses Ss attention on the pictures and the story which are on two pages (4,5) -T asks prediction questions 1.Are Kate and Ed happy? 2.Where do you think they go with Libby? 3.Who is Fin?

While-Reading #1 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

-T tells the gist question "who comes to visit?" -T plays the recording and asks Ss to listen and follow the story in their books. -T asks the gist question. -T plays the recording again and asks comprehension questions 1.What does Ed want to do? 2.What does Libby do on Fridays? 3.Where does she take Ed and Libby? 4.What do they wear at the DSD club? -T plays the recording again and pauses for Ss to repeat -T divides the class into groups of five to play the parts -T plays the recording again and asks Ss to listen and mime -T asks Ss to act out the story and then asks one or two groups to act out the story for the class

While-Reading #2 (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

-T asks Ss to read the sentences silently and decide if they are true or false -T explains the example -(differentiation) Ss complete the activity -T check the answers with the class.

Post-Reading (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-T asks Ss to answer the question 1. Do you like to do something different? 2. What do you like to do?
