Simple Past Perfect

Description

This is a grammar lesson where learners widen their scope of past-time events. Through a situational context, Sts will learn how past events are put in order using the simple past perfect .Through narrative activities ,they will connect the different aspects of time tenses. In other words, they will recycle their conception of the simple past in relation to the simple past perfect.

Main Aims

  • to enable learners to understand relationship between events in the past (talk about an event that took place ,and may be finished, before something else in the past). understand time relation of time conjunctions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Telling the students a narrative about the events I encountered the day before the session to elicit the target language in the following stage.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • to elicit the target language

Providing Sts with four images (visual aids) which they have to relate to the previous narrative. They will put these images in the order of the events encountered in the narrative. Then they will match the images with four sentences in the simple and perfect past tenses.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language through guided discovery

Giving Sts a short reading passage with certain verb endings boldfaced. In pairs, they have to underline verbs in the past.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

To provide the students with the form and the use of the past perfect in addition, I will show them a time line of the tense. Then I model and drill for pronunciation. to ask Sts CCQs

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

in pairs students will do a grammar activity.

Semi-Controlled Practice (7-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students in groups will come up with their own narratives. To record these narrative using Vocaroo.
