Description

In this lesson students review present an simple tense and further learn how to create question forms of each tense. The students are exposed to the target language gradually. Starting with affirmatives, negatives, question words to frequency and time expressions. Finally the students will have the opportunity to practice making their own questions and in the production stage give feed back about their peers

Main Aims

  • To provide students with practice and accuracy with present simple & present continuous questions in the context of work

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation when asking questions in the context of work

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T greets students and starts drinking something (tea,coffe or water) -T asks students "what am I doing? -S say drinking coffe -T asks for the whole sentence "you are drinking coffe". -T what else are we doing now? - students list a few things. e.g the sun is shinning, we are learning English and etc. (write on the board. -T asks what they do every morning. (E.g I wake up at 8 am) - Ss come up with a few answers

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-T asks students to work in PW -find 3 routine things your partner does and 3 things they are doing now. - take notes while you talk -during feed back Ss take turns to tell the class a sentence for routine things and a sentence for what they are doing now. -T takes a few sentences and writes them on the board so they can see the target language

Highlighting (5-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-T asks students to work in PW -find 3 routine things your partner does and 3 things they are doing now. - take notes while you talk -during feed back Ss take turns to tell the class a sentence for routine things and a sentence for what they are doing now. -T takes a few sentences and writes them on the board so they can see the target language

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-T shows images and asks Ss to elicit the answers. to reveal the topic (present simple & present continuous) -T gives the Ss a a task to complete -Ss work alone to answer the present simple & present contious questions. -Ss work in pairs forr peer checking -class feed back to get the correct answers - T uses 2 of the sentences to produce the form through eliciting. -T provides a time line for student to decide the actions -T uses drilling and CCQs to cover MFP

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-Ss are given a task to create questions or sentences working the given prompts -Ss first work alone, then they compare answers for peer checking. -During feed back answers are taken from Ss. -T asks if they all agree. - T drills and reminds forms and meaning as errors are made.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-S are given another task to prepare them for the production stage. -Ss work alone and then in PW -T asks Ss to all come up with one question in Pairs. -ICQs are made to confirm understaning -T monitors and takes notes -T elicits answers and provides support with MFP.

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Ss work in PW to choose 5 questions to ask partner. -Ss work in Pw and discuss the answers in turns -ICQ is done by the teacher before Break out rooms -Feed back is given -Ss take turns to use one present simple sentence about their partner and one present contious. -T contiues to drill and support Ss when mistakes are detected.
