Main Aims

  • To provide speaking practice in the form of story telling and in the context of first time experiences

  • To provide fluency practice in the context of first time experiences

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T introduces topic of first time experiences via jamboard - Ss complete a poll asking how many of the first time examples they remember (direct poll link) http://etc.ch/bLCA - T sends link into the chat and ensures all Ss can open it ICQs: Has everyone opened the link? Can you see the question and options? Are you going to check all the experiences that you remember? - T shows results to illustrate Ss memories

Content Preparation (8-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

- Ss listen to two people discussing a first time experience - Ss complete a task individually via google forms, selecting which 'first experience' each speaker is talking about (5 min) - T shares the task and checks to ensure Ss have received it. https://forms.gle/c9GZY3BivZLtHjqGA ICQs: Has everyone seen the link I shared in the chat? Has everyone opened the link from the chat? What are the 5 options? - OCFB to clarify any answers

Language Preparation (10-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Speaking Task (14-14 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target speaking skills

- T introduces speaking task and provides examples for them to talk about. T puts Task Document in chat and shares screen. (2 min) ICQs: What are you going to talk about? How many experiences are you going to talk about? What language are you going to use? How much time do you have to prepare? - T puts TL into chat, gives Ss time to prepare and rehearse their story (5 min) - T checkS instructions - Ss tell a ‘first time’ story using the TL [BO rooms] (7 min)

Feedback and Error Correction (8-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

- OCFB: Ss share what they learned about their peer's experience with the class. - DEC: T praises good use of language, corrects any errors. Focus on fluency, content and ideas, not on grammar mistakes
