Description

In this lesson, students learn phrases/vocabulary to talk about what they like to do in their free time. Students will practice the TL with gap fillers and they will have the opportunity to personalize the context- according to what makes them happy.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of free time

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T tells greets the class - T uses 4 images of things that make me happy. 2-true and 2-not true. -S will guess or predict which ones are true. -T can start to decide if the S needd emphasis on meaning and support. If yes, which ones in particular?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-T shows uses writes the TL on the board- based on the images used in the lead-in - T elicits the verbs used to describe how each activity is done -

Highlighting and clarification (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- T uses CCQs to confirm understanding -T shows the pronounciaiton of each activity -T emphasizes on the stressed words -Ss repeat after the T. drilling

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice using gap fillers exercise.

-Ss work alone for the excersice -Ss work in PW for peer checking -Ss have a quick discussion to check answers with T (T feed back)

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-T gives the Ss the excercice and helps with the first two questions -T uses ICQ to make sure the students know what to do -S work in pairs to match the image to the correct activity - T tells the Ss this is competition to see who gets 10 activity right- this will enage the students -Feed back (answers shown)

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Ss work in pairs to choose 3 activities they do in their free time -they create a role play to each practice -T uses ICQs before they go to break out rooms -final feed back T check for accuracy and fluency
