Description

In this lesson Ss. will learn about the relative pronouns and how to use them correctly in a sentence . They will get the structure and meaning through reading a text a short story . After playing a game as a warm -up , they will watch a video about the story the the T. will explain the blocking words and then they will read it to do a true or false activity on the next step , T. will elicit the structure and meaning of relative pronouns and as a practice they will do a selective response activity and then do a writing activity .

Main Aims

  • • To provide practice of the relative pronouns through doing different activities. •
  • To provide clarification of the relative pronouns using a reading text .

  • • To practice reading for a gist to do true or false activity .

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Warm- up : Name 3 things game : -Using the PPT., T. displays the name of the task and asks Ss. to name 3 things in the kitchen , 3 names of boys starting with A , 3 things they do in the morning . -T. assign 30 seconds for each task and displays it on the slide . *T. explains that the first one to answer should say his/her name and shout out the answer. *T. praises the Ss. for participating . Lead -in : *T. tells Ss. that they will read a text today but before reading they should watch a video about the story they are going to read. *T. displays a video about "Timothy the tortoise " and asks Ss. to watch the video and guess who is the main character of the story they are going to read . * T. elicits the answers ( The tortoise ) * T. praises the Ss. for their correct answers.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading a short story .

* Pre-Reading : 1- T. presents the blocking words. ( Mascot) using ...... * T. displays a picture of mascot. * T. asks questions to elicit the word : - Where can you find that? -What do people believe in it ? *T. represents the definition of the word "an animal, a toy, etc. that people believe will bring them good luck or represents some organizations . * T. says the word " Mascot" and asks Ss. to repeat . * T. gives an example of the word mascot. *T asks CCQs.: 1- Is mascot a person ? ( could be a person , an animal or a thing) 2- Do people hate mascots ? ( No , they like them) 3- Do people think a mascot brings bad luck ? ( No, they think it brings a good luck) 4- Have you ever tried to wear a mascot? 2- T. asks Ss. to skim the text and answer : * Pre-Reading : 1- T. presents the blocking words. Timothy the tortoise , Captain Everard and lady Gabrielle - Is Timothy a male or a female? a male - How old was he when he died? about 160 3- T. asks Ss. to read the text and answer the following questions : - T. explains that they should read the text individually then put T or F and share their answers within their groups and they need 2 mins to do that. Put T or F : 1- Timothy was a tortoise which lived around 160 years. 2- Captain Everard is the person who found the tortoise Timothy. 3-Pwoderham is a place where the Earls of Devon used to live. 4- the sea is the place where the tortoise spent his early life in. 5- Timothy is a tortoise which was found on a ship in 1854. -T. divides Ss. into groups of 3. -T. hands each group a text about sports

Highlighting the rule (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify the structure and meaning of the relative pronouns

* T. displays the sentences that were mentioned in the true or false activity with missing parts and asks Ss. to complete them Timothy is a tortoise , -------------------------- Captain Everard is a person ,----------------------- The sea is a place , -------------------------- - T. asks Ss. to repeat the TL with the whole class , in pairs and individually. * T. elicits the meaning by asking : - What does who , which and that refer to in each sentence? T. displays wrong sentences and asks Ss. to pick out the mistakes and correct them That man which is wearing a black jacket is my father. The room who is painted in pink is my room.

Controlled practice (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills using the relative pronouns

SB: This is the gun that the murder uses to kill Jack Miller . SA : Who is that woman in the picture? SB : That is the woman who is suspected to kill Mr. Millar
