Description

In this lesson, Ss learn about basic plot events in the first stanza of the '' The Raven'' a poem by Edger Allan Poe. The lesson starts with showing Ss images to get Ss' attention followed by pre-teaching words. After that, starting the discussion for Comprehension. Finally, a post reading task.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss images of a raven and ask them if they know the name of the bird and how they feel when they see it.

Preditiction Task (1-4 minutes) • To encourage Ss think about the content of the poem and give them a reason to read it.

Do you know the words in red?

Pre-teach vocabulary (5-10 minutes) • To help Ss understand the text

Use PPT to test Ss knowledge and introduce the key lexis.

While-Reading for Specific info (3-5 minutes) • To further familiarise learners with the text.

Ask Ss some question to help them understand the text more.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-21 minutes) • TO allow an opportunity to write the stanza in their own words.

Task 1 : Ask them to write the stanza counting on their understanding of the key lexis and get the feedback.

Extra Activities • In case we finish earlier, there will be something to do.

A short video about a talking raven which can prepare Ss for the coming lesson where they will meet with the raven in the poem. Khoot to test their understand of the key lexis and help them memorise the key words.
