Description

by the end of the lesson students will be able to use ing-form and infinitive correctly and to differentiate between them related to their meaning . First, the students will be shown a video which shows the difference in meaning and form and T is going to make some comments on the video and make discussion with SS and elicit the difference in meaning, After that they will be shown an explanation of the most important verbs used with ing -form and infinitive ( remember, forget, etc, ) . we will have 3 exercises to do , in the first one they will work in groups to choose the correct form depending on the meaning. In the second one, students will work in pairs to check the difference between the two structures. Finally, the students will match the structure to the meaning depending on the previous examples. In addition to that, they will work individually on Kahoot and online worksheet

  • To provide practice of ing-form and infinitive form in the context of witness

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of witness

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

SS will be shown a video which the T will pause it many times to clarify important points and elicit the difference between ing-form and infinitive from the students while watching the video and ask the students to write down some notes

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

SS will be shown an explanation of the main points of the lesson through an explanation which will be as discussion T ss what is the difference in meaning when we use ing-form or infinitive (elicitation) e.g. do you remember seeing a video of the bus exploding? here I will ask the students to explain the difference in meaning ( the ability to remember seeing the video of the bus exploding ) but in the other example we forget to send a birthday card on time : it is our responsibility to send the card on time but we forget to send and I haven't sent it yet

Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

the productive skill of the target language is speaking. so the students will be asked to discuss in pairs two examples of the same verb and find the difference in meaning and form of ing and infinitive use CCQs to confirm their understanding of the meaning e.g. I forgot cooking pizza ( he has no memory on how to cook pizza) I forgot to cook pizza ( it is my responsibility to cook the pizza but I didn't) CCQs: did he cook the pizza ? no

Planning (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students' reports

Report (4-7 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

The students will be given time to report how they did the practice in the previous stage. So , they can differentiate between using ing-form and infinitive e.g. forget doing is related to the memory and forget to do is related to responsibility

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

after the previous stages we can summarize what we have studied about ing-form and infinitive meaning and form and pronunciation with providing examples and elicitation from the students give example and clarify the meaning , form and pronunciation

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

At this stage ss will work in groups on question 3 C on page 105 ( each group will do two questions ) and discuss their answers with the T for feedback
