Description

In this lesson students will be introduced and be able to practice using functional language in the context of expressing likes and dislikes. They will also get to practice listening for detail and speaking towards the end of the lesson.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T begins the lesson by displaying the questions: What is something that you love doing? What is something that you hate doing? Why? Instructions: Discuss with your partner You have 3 minutes for this -T opens breakout rooms -T elicits from SS

Exposure/Text work (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Instructions: I will now play an audio and you will have to answer some questions while you listen. -T sends the link of the activity -T plays the audio (twice if needed) "You will have 2 minutes to compare your answers with a partner" -T opens breakout rooms -T nominates SS to share their answers

Language Clarification (8-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning T displays the expressions used in context Then, T asks SS to match the expressions with the corresponding meaning T asks if the statements displayed are positive, negative or neutral. Form Instructions: Read the sentences and choose the correct structure. You have 3 min for this. T sends SS the link T nominates SS to share their answers and corrects if necessary Pronunciation and Appropriacy T does some drilling with the sentences from the previous activity T asks: Are these sentence formal or informal? T nominates SS to participate

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T displays the activity Instructions: You will choose the correct expression from the box to complete the sentences. You will have 2 minutes for this. -"Now you will compare your answers with a partner. You have 2 minutes" ICQs Is this individual? (no) How much time do you have? (2 min) T opens breakout rooms -T nominates SS to share their answers and corrects if necessary

Freer Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T tells SS they will have a discussion Instructions: You will find out things that your partner absolutely loves, likes and hates. -T displays a structure for SS to follow "You will have 7 minutes for this" T opens breakout rooms (trios if possible) and monitors SS -T nominates SS to participate

Feedback and DEC (2-4 minutes) • To correct content and language mistakes made throughout the lesson

Using the white board, T writes some mistakes made -T asks SS if they notice a problem with the language -T does some drilling
