Name: Hadis kheybari Level: starter Length of the lesson :30 minutes This lesson focuses on reading and speaking in the context of 3 family businesses. The class starts with a lead-in which is relevant to the context ,T shows pictures of 2 famous family businesses to elicit information about the words and content of the lesson. Some blocking vocabularies are then taught then t uses jigsaw method in order to teaching reading .This is then followed by reading for gist and reading for the detail. The productive task aims at personalizing the topic.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about a family business .

Subsidiary Aims

  • T indirectly teaches possessive adjectives through text and by explaining the relationship between family members in pictures.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T shows two photos of 2 famous brands(Samsung and Mars) and asks Ss if they know these brands or not. -T specifies the topic to family business and asks Ss to discuss with their partners what is the relationships between the brand and the people in the pictures and explains that they are 2 famous family businesses in the world and introduces mars family and Samsung family (the owner, his family including:his sister,brother,daughter,...).

Pre-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-T tells the Ss that they are going to read 3 texts about 3 different family and their businesses. - t asks Ss to look at the pictures of the families in the book and try to guess the relationship between people in the pictures with their partner (group of 2). -t teaches some vocabularies by using different photos and also using demonstration,explanation and pictures in order to eliciting the meaning of the vocabularies and clarifying the meaning by asking some CCQs.

While-Reading 1 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

-T divides the class into 3 and gives each group a different text. -T asks them to read the text individually and answer the question after that they peer-check their answer with their group member. -Tasks them to skim it to see if their predictions about content is correct. -Elicitation(only yes/no is expected as an answer because he details should not be revealed). -T distributes the answer to each group and gives them time to check their answers.

While-Reading 2 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

-T regroups the Ss (group of 3) and each group has a expert o each text and tells them to summarize their part to the other group members and asks them to take down notes as they listen to their peers from the other group. -T gives Ss a few minutes to complete the table and check answers with their group and the whole class.

Post-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-T asks Ss to rank the businesses from 1-3,starting with the one they like best. -T gives a vocabulary task and matching the meaning and words and highlight the words in the text.(find words that mean x,y,z) -T asks Ss to underline each possessive adj in the text(depending on time left).
