Main Aims

  • to practice speaking for fluency and accuracy using past simple

Subsidiary Aims

  • - To provide Ss with more confidence and opportunity to use past simple.
  • - To expose sts to past simple regular/irregular/positive / negative forms.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context , engage students and generate interest.

T presents a picture and asks Ss if they can guess what is the topic about. T presents some questions and asks Ss to discuss these questions in groups # What fast food companies are there in your country? # What are the good and bad things about fast food? # How often do you go to a fast-food restaurant? # What do you usually have to eat or drink ?

Exposure (6-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Teaching vocab: T is going to teach some blocking words before reading a text about Harland Sanders. The blocking words are" service station- serve someone - develop". T is going to use "MPF" to explain the words and use CCQs to check Ss understanding. Planning Time: T is going to hand out a text about Harland Sanders and ask Ss to read it quickly, then Ss are going to read it again to put some events in order. Ss are going to work individually then check their answers with their group. T is going to ask Ss to look again at the text and elicit some sentences in past simple to revise the tense ( P . N . R . IR )

Useful Language (5-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Controlled practice: T is going to ask Ss to fill in the blank using the past form to complete the exercise. Ss are going to work individually then they check their answers as a whole class.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss are going to set some questions in order to interview each other and ask about personal information. T is going to give some helping words. T is not going to interfere while the process of production as it's the time of fluency.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T writes some good language and praises. T writes some language in need of correction. T elicits what correct answers and reviews pronunciation if needed.
