Main Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a the creation of the letter A and a in the context of the word alligator and apple

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a phonics of soft and hard a in the context of the word alligator and apple

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

show the class a flash card of an alligator and elicit the name, if elicitation does not work then use repetition to associate the word alligator with the picture repeat using a picture of an apple

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

show them a big A mime out the writing process in the air using three strokes get the children to follow my lead draw the letter onto the board repeat process using a small a

trace and chant (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

allow the children time to trace the letters into the work book highlight the chant allow them to listen to the chant repeat the chant with them line by line highlight pronunciation of Aa, alligator and apple

colour fun (8-10 minutes) • To practice the creation of the letter

allow time for the children to colour in the pictures of the A and a to increase exposure to the letter

game (8-10 minutes) • To further expose the letter shapes

with the help of the co-teacher explain the rules of the game I will point to either the big A or the small a the children must then get into groups and form the letters using their bodies
