in this lesson students will learn how to use question tags in the present and the past simple through a conversation between two brothers


Main Aims

  • To provide understanding and practice of question tag in the context of a conversation about two brothers

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of question tags in the context of multiple choice questions
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation. Students use question tags and asking and add follo up questions to get more information.


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

"T asks students to describe 2 pictures and then have a discussion and predict what the conversation they will be working on it will be about. 
"What can you see in these pictures? 
You are going to read a conversation between two brothers, 
before you read, look at the picture and predict the conversation. 
Learners work in pairs in breakout rooms and discuss. " 

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

"Individually students will read a conversation between two brothers. They have to fill the gaps with question tags in the present and in the past simple. 
Instructions:Read the conversation and fill the gap. 
Demo the task 
The teacher will then give answers.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

"Teacher will work on the MEANING by working oil a jam board slide. Students have to complete the sentences so they have the same meaning of the first one. INSTRUCTIONS: Match the green sticky notes with the GREEN so they have the same meaning as the first sentence. Individually Then teacher asks CCQ and personalised questions individually. Teacher will work on the FORM of the question tag with a matching activity. Students have to complete the sentence. INSTRUCTIONS: Put the ORANGE sticky notes AFTER THE BLUE STICKY NOTES TO COMPLETE THE SENTENCES. In pairs. 
 T conducts OCFB and he clarifies F for problematic items. Then T will work on the PRONUNCIATION. Students have to choose the correct option.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

"T asks students to read the sentences and choose the correct question tag from multiple choice. . 
Instruction: read the sentences and choose the correct option. 
Learners read the questions and answers in pairs. 
T conducts OCFB

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

"Instruction: we are going to have a conversation. First complete the sentences with question tag. Demo the task Then ask your partner and add follow up questions. Demo the task TheN write notes about your partner.
