Description

In this lesson, students will undergo practice of some vocabulary words in the context of Environment. The lesson will start with a video on environment issues followed by a gap fill activity to make learners familiar with the context. This will be the first stage and then students lead into some listening exercise and free speaking in the context of environment.

Main Aims

  • Students will clarify the meaning, pronunciation and form of some vocabulary words in the context of environment and undergo practice related to the context.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students will be introduced to some listening exercises about recycling in the context of environment. To provide fluency speaking practice in a group discussion in the context of environment.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T commences the class by showing a short clip on environment to set the context. T tries to elicit some views from the learners individually about the video shown.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T introduces the topic and puts some pictures on the WB. T ask students to paste the right words for the pictures on the WB. Time limit and ICQs. FB is given and answers are discussed orally.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

On the either side of the WB, T displays the meaning of the words in a random way and tries to elicit the meaning from students by asking them to match the right meaning. T provides some hint for students to get a basic idea. T sets the time limit and monitor students. FB is given for the activity.

Clarification (5-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T proposed the topic in details and tries to elicit views from learners regarding the vocabulary words in the context of environment. T highlights the pronunciation and stress of the words. T provides some drilling for improved pronunciation.

Controlled Practice#1 (Gap-fill) (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Chesting the HO, T introduces the task and SS work on their own. Time limit and ICQs. SS check their answers with a partner. T provides FB.

Controlled Practice#2 (Listening exercise) (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice in listening skills.

T asks students to listen to the recording and fill in the right option in the HO. T monitors SS. SS check their answers in pairs. T provides FB.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Chesting the HO, T asks SS to work in pairs and fill in the gaps with sentences. SS will discuss in groups and try to evolve ideas of recycling and reuse in the context of environment. SS work in pairs. T monitors students. T sets a time limit: 3 min ICQs T provides FB.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T gives out Qs about SS personal experience and perspectives about environment and get them to work in pairs. T regroups the SS and monitors. T takes the notes of SS mistakes.

Delayed Error feedback (1-2 minutes) • For SS to notice their own mistakes and get feedback.

T puts SS errors on the board and corrects the form/pronunciation. T thanks the class. Goodbye.
