  • To provide practice and clarification of language used for making and responding to suggestions in the context of recreation

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about suggestions in the context of recreation
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of recreation

Procedure

Lead-in (6-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shares screen presents a google slide to Ss with instruction: "Discuss with your partner three places in town you like to go to with your friends" T nominates S to read instructions T elaborates "This can be the name of a restaurant, a dance club, movie theater, amusement park etc." T briefly models task "I like to go to a movie theater called silverspot, a seafood restaurant called Randy's and a bar called Blue Martini" T sets task "Share the name of these places with your partner, you have 3 minutes" ICQs- Are you talking about the names of places or the activity in general?" Names How much time do you have? T sends Ss into break out rooms Ss discuss question in pairs for 2mins T shares screen of a jamboard and sends link in chat Instruction: "Write the names of a few of these places from your conversation on post it" Take two minutes Ss work individually for 2mins

Exposure through Text-Work (8-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a dialogue text

T will share screen of a google site with a text of a dialogue and a short google form that checks for understanding "Read through this text and answer the questions below when you have finished, take 4 minutes to do this" "When you have finished answering the questions send me a thumbs up emoji, and then check your answers with your partner in breakout rooms" ICQ- "What do you do after you have finished reading?" Answer questions T sends link to google sites in chat Ss work individually for 4mins Repeat instruction: "Check your answers with your partner, take 2mins" T assigns Ss to breakout rooms Ss work in pairs for 2mins OCFB- T shares screen of answers to google form questions on google slide, resolves questions, doubts. 2min

Language clarification (8-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

CCQ elicitation "What did you notice about that dialogue?" T tries to elicit something like suggestions, declining, agreeing. T shares screen of a google form T demos first question Instruction: "Complete this form, work individually, you have 3 minutes" ICQ: individually or in pairs? individually T shares link to form Students work individually for 3 minutes T shares google slide of answer key CCQ: Any questions about the answers? T nominates students to read three items of target language, elicits intonation T elicits answer to which refusal phrase is more polite/softer 4minutes

Controlled Practice (9-9 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T shares screen of a google site with a new dialogue with google form Instruction: "Read this dialogue and fix the sentences in blue by writing the correct form in the google form. You have 4 minutes. Work individually and then check your answers with your partner in breakout rooms. Send me a thumbs up when you have completed the task" ICQ: What color are you fixing? blue are you working alone or in pairs for the first part? Alone T sends link in chat Ss work individually for 4minutes Instruction repeat: "Check your answers with your partner you have 3 minutes" T sends Ss to break out rooms, Ss work in pairs 3mins T presents Ss with a google slide with answer key CCQ: What is another way to say number 1, 4,5?

Freer Practice (9-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T presents Ss with google slide with instructions and nominates student to read "Have a conversation with your partner about planning the weekend" T models conversation with student 3min "Use names of places from jamboard you have 5 minutes" ICQ: Are we talking about our real weekends or are we just imagining? imagining T shares link of google slides presentation for reference T puts Ss into breakout rooms Ss work in pairs 5mins OCFB-T points out good use of language 1min

Feedback D.E.C (5-5 minutes) • To correct errors from freer practice and lesson
