Description

In this lesson, students will introduce and practice articles with a number of tests. The first test will be introduce so i can see the general idea they have of the topic. Later, i will teach the difference between each article. (i.e an, a, the, and no articles). Finally a final exam for them to put the learning in practice.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification on the use of articles. (i.e. a,an,the,no article) in the context of preparing a time capsule.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking and grammar practice in the context of preparing a time capsule.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

My Lead-in consists on a picture of a present or gift. Where the students will be asked "Lets imagine you are giving a present to yourself but you will open it in 10 years. What would you give yourself? What would you put inside?". Depending on the group students will be sent to BOR's to discuss for 2 min. Once students return i will write the answers on the whiteboard (i.e a cellphone, an orange sweater, a picture of the family, money) where i would ask everyone what is a, an, the. Which will bring me to the test.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

This test is based on 13 questions where students will test their knowledge on the topic before we move on to the MFP. The test is multiply choice where their options are a, an, the, or - (no article). Students will do the exam individually. Once the exam is complete we will go over the answers as a group.

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Students will be shown Google slides with each article and their meanings followed by examples. This will give them an understanding of each article. During each slide students will be asked to give an example of each article. Depending on the amount of students i will select one for one example.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

This final exam can be tricky. Students need to use the information from the teach portion of the class. The test is based on fill in the blank.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will be shown the question from our lead " What would you give yourself?and why?" in to correctly say their answer and with detail. This will be done in groups or in pairs depending on the amount of students.
