Materials

Abc Listening

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about a birthday party

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students will be able to produce what they think and share with their partners their ideas by speaking

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will have learners talk about 1 or 2 questions related to the topic of the lesson. How was the best birthday party you had or assisted? What do you think about throwing big parties?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will Choose 2 or 3 challenging words from the text and cover Meaning, form and pronunciation Words: Lucky, ill and wrong

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will tell ss to listen to an audio to get the general idea, then they will choose which topics were brought on the text. Which of these things are not mentioned in the text. Where the family lives. People at the party, Food and drink, The weather, People not at the party and Birthday presents

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Learners will listen a second time for detailed information to answer the following questions. How old did the boy turned? How many people attended the party? Where did his grandad come from? What were the two things that went wrong? If needed i will provide the audio one more time

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Now that students have the context of the text, they will answer with their own opinion these questions with their partners. Have you ever had a party where things didn’t go as expected? What happened? How did you feel? and what was your reaction? What would be your ideal party? I will give delayed error correction at the end of the class.
