In this lesson, the students are going to discuss the news and study new vocabulary based on reading lesson. this will be followed by a jigsaw activity as the students are going to be divided into two groups with two different stories to discuss the information they will read. this activity will be followed by many different controlled activities to draw conclusion about what we have discussed

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed and scan reading practice using a text about what's in the news? in the context of news

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a debate in the context of two different news stories

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students are going to watch a short video clip of different news bulletin to set the context and lead the students in the lesson. Then the students are going to work in groups to discuss three questions about the news

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher will show the students different pictures for the new vocabulary and the students what they represent and elicit the meaning of the words from the students. The the teacher will divide the students into two groups with two different stories and give them the instructions to start the jigsaw activity.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

After, dividing the students into two groups (group A,B) , I will ask the students to read the stories that they will have to answer the questions that I will hand it to them. Then I will ask the students to discuss about what they have just read and check their answers to make sure that they are all have the same answers.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I will give the students a number off like (1,2,3,..) for each group and ask the 1s to come together,2s to be together,3s to be together according to their numbers to discuss what they have learned from their first groups.

Post-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will get a WC feedback about what they have learned then I will ask the students to work in pairs to discuss what was in the news yesterday, and get the feedback
