Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice vocabulary in the context of different degrees of obligation

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will have learners talk in groups about 1 question related to the topic of the lesson using breakout rooms. They will see some images about some topics on Jamboard and for each image, they will have to talk about this question: What age do you have to be to...? https://jamboard.google.com/d/17NhKcva76JtK2I5CewjZqEG3tuK0iwC0N2V0mhywTNI/edit?usp=sharing

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

I will have learners work in pairs answering True or False to some statements in Jamboard that will expose them to the grammar. They will work in pairs via breakout rooms before OCFB. https://jamboard.google.com/d/13W1RTTF6K-1hl3aJoNRIjIa00z7Mih9JBuut55TpDhc/edit?usp=sharing

Language Clarification (8-14 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I will have students get the meaning of the modals by matching them to some statements. This will be done on google slides and they will work in pairs via breakout rooms before OCFB. After that, I will have them do another matching activity but this time about pronunciation. In pairs too via breakout rooms before OCFB. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1V70s8LkLC6iN-ya6JvjztXvDwPtiULjKXQH28AUVfqM/edit?usp=sharing https://jamboard.google.com/d/1AuFMLFMo0cDby38v1NTDPB71MMrATDUaqQg8hqmRjiE/edit?usp=sharing

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students' reports

I will have students do an option choosing activity in pairs using Jamboard via breakout room before OCFB https://jamboard.google.com/d/1YLlTcG7xK-Lu9SUu5wRnw1Ehv9k4Hkv8zX595ivcyDA/edit?usp=sharing

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

I will have students discuss in pairs different interesting facts related to the topic using Google forms in the breakout rooms before OCFB https://forms.gle/ersULMiXH8TTDvEr6
