Description

At the end of this lesson, Ss will learn the target language 'should & shouldn't' in the context of 'A sick person during pandemic'. In the lead-in and exposure stage, T shows two pics to Ss to set the context. Then Ss discuss about the things a sick person 'should' and 'shouldn't' do when sick by a matching exercise . Then T clarifies the MFP of the TL which is followed by a controlled, semi-controlled, and freer practice.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-1 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T: Shows Ss a picture of 'a sick person during pandemic' T: Elicit the idea of 'a sick person' T: Asks Ss about the problem of 'the sick person'

Exposure (2-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- T Shows two pics; resting at home & visiting the doctor - T Asks Ss two Qs: " When you are sick, should you rest at home or should you visit a doctor?" - Ss discuss their opinions about what they 'should' and 'shouldn't' do when they are sick

Highlighting (4-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- T prepared a matching exercise for Ss - T does one exercise as a model for Ss - Ss do not produce TL, only match what they think is a 'should' or 'shouldn't' - Ss do the exercise as PW - T monitors, FB at the end, and give AK

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- T shows the Clarification slide - T elicit one example from Ss by the prompt provided - T elicit the meaning with CCQs provided - T elicit the Form from Ss - T elicit the negative form from Ss - T explains other form that TL does not get - T writes the phonetic script of 'should' & 'shouldn't' - T drills

Controlled Practice (10-13 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- T provides four slides B, C, D, E for the controlled practice - Ss start with exercise B - T elicits one sentence from Ss/ T does ICQs/ Ss in breakout room PW/ T monitors/ FB / AK - Ss are provided with exercise C - T elicits one sentence from Ss/ T does ICQs/ Ss in breakout room PW/ T monitors/ FB / AK - Ss are provided with exercise E - T elicits one sentence from Ss/ T does ICQs/ Ss in breakout room PW/ T monitors/ FB / AK ((( Based on time, T decides Ss do exercise D or not)))

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- Ss are provided with exercise F - T elicits an example to give Ss prompt/ T does ICQs - Ss do PW in breakout rooms - T & Ss discuss GW - T monitors/ delayed FB

Free Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- Ss are provided with exercise G - T elicits the model to do the exercise - Ss discuss as GW - T monitors/ delayed FB
