Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show pictures that indicate a local celebration and start a short conversation (through Q/A) about their favorite celebration. Qs: take a look at these pics. where do you think they are? (Egypt) Are they showing a celebration? (yes) what do you think they are celebrating? ..... How do Egyptians usually celebrate it?

Pre-Reading (2-3 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Pre teach "Gondola" and "Parade" through pictures. Show the pic and check pre knowledge. - on the 3rd of April, Egyptians will witness the Royal Mummy Parade, where mummies will be transported to the Grand Museum of Egypt. - write "parade" on the board and pronounce it. -In Venice, the main transport is gondola. - write "gondola" on the board and pronounce it.

While-Reading #1 (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Chest the reading task and say: "I need help here. There is no title in this passage and we need to put a title. read the passage quickly and find a title for it." ICQ: "Are you going to read every word? No", " What is missing here? A title. " Give Ss 90 seconds to read the passage. O/C feedback.

While-Reading#2 (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging reading task.

Tell Ss to read again and find the answers of the questions provided. Tell Ss to check their answers in pairs. Guide Ss to the answer key.

Post-Reading (4-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

tell Ss to work in groups and talk about local celebrations. Demonstrate.: T asks a S, do you have local celebrations in your country? when does it happen? is there a special food or costumes? Do people walk around in parades? Do you have fireworks in the evening? is there any type of special music or instruments? Write the prompts on the board. when / how / food / clothes / music / fireworks. Ask Ss to start speaking and do the same in pairs. Give O/C feedback after monitoring.
