Description

In this lesson, the students will learn about the difference between present simple and present continuous in the context of peoples' appearances. They will practice the target language in few activities and activate them in the form of speaking. Then they will participate in a group game.

Main Aims

  • For students to distinguish between present simple and present continuous in the context of peoples' appearance, and understand the meaning of usually and now.

Subsidiary Aims

  • For students to practice speaking for accuracy using present simple and present continuous tenses.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T points to herself and says (I usually wear black, but I'm wearing white now.) and elicits now and usually. CCQ--> Am I wearing black now? Do I always wear black? How many times a week do I wear black?

Exposure and Highlights (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through examples from the previous lesson.

_T shows a picture of a girl who is wearing make-up. Asks Ss what is on her face. _T shows a timeline and writes (she is wearing make-up.) CCQ-->(Is she wearing make-up in this picture now or two years ago.? What form of grammar is this? _T asks students to give her the short form, negative form, and question form and writes on the WB. _T shows another picture of the same actor who changes his appearance for every movie. CCQ--> ( Does he look the same in every movie? Does he always do it?) _T shows another timeline and writes (He usually changes his look for every film.) _T asks students to give her the short form, negative form, and question form and writes on the WB. _During each step T drills the pronunciation.

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

_T explains we use present continuous for things that continue for a limited period of time around now. _T explains we use the present simple for situations that keep going over a long time, for actions that are repeated or facts. _T asks Ss to fill some gaps and puts the students to check their answers together? _T gives FB.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

_T shows two pictures to Ss and asks them to point at the things that look unusual. _Ss try to find the weird things. _T gives 2 minutes to Ss to do activity one puts them in PW to check their answers together, motors and gives FB. _T shows the answer key. __T gives 2 minutes to Ss to do activity TWo puts them in PW to check their answers together, motors and gives FB. _T shows the answer key.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

_T puts Ss into two groups, and they will have a competition in the game of baamboozle.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

_T describes the game two lies and a truth. T directs students to use only present perfect and present simple sentences in the game. gives her example and the game begins... _Ss engage in the game. _T listens, writes their mistakes and in the end she gives delayed FB praises Ss.
