Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have learned about present continuous in the form of affirmative and negative sentences in the context of social life.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, student will have practiced speaking by describing a picture in the context of social life.

Procedure

Present (7-8 minutes) • To set lesson context, engage students and to expose them to the Target language through a video

- T greets everyone. - T plays a video and asks Ss to answer questions. - T asks ICQs if needed. - T gives feedback.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- T uses one of the Ss's answer and write it on the board. - T draws a timeline.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- T elicits answers from Ss. - T does CCQs : 1) Is it happening now, past or future. 2) Is it finished? -T does drill substitution: - T substitute the subjects and wants Ss to tell the new sentences. (for affirmative form) - T elicits the rule from Ss. - T substitute the subjects and wants Ss to tell the new sentences (for negative form) - T elicits the rule from Ss. - T writes the contractions.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To focus more on accuracy on using the TL

- T asks student to answer questions. - T does ICQs if needed. - T wants Ss to check their answers in Pairs, in breakout rooms. - T gives feedback

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- T wants Ss to answer the question. - T does ICQs if needed. - T asks students to check their answers. - T does feedback.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- T shows Ss a picture and wants them to describe it. - T models it. - T puts Ss in breakout rooms - T does monitoring and takes note some errors Ss make. - T writes than the errors on the virtual board. - If there is time T wants Ss to work in pairs to find out the errors, if not does it as a whole class.
