Description

In this session, students will develop their listening skills in the context of peoples' appearance, learn the vocabulary related to it, and personalize their own examples in speaking. They will then practice gist listening with a number the pictures in order activity, and for the listening for details practice, they will fill some gaps. In the end, they will discuss their own ideas for changing appearances.

Main Aims

  • For students to develop their listening skills in the context of peoples' appearance through some gist listening and listening for details activities.

Subsidiary Aims

  • For students to learn and practice the target vocab (adjectives and clothes) in the context of peoples' appearance.

Procedure

Warmer (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students and show the order of adjectives.

_T presents the lexis for different types of hair and drills the words and Ss repeat. _In a PW, Ss engage in an online game. T assist if there were any problems. _ On the WB, T writes the order of the adjectives. Gives her example and asks students to generate their own examples.T gives feedback.

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening and make it accessible by preventing any blocking words.

_T shows pictures and elicits the name of the actor and actress.--> DO you know they are? Have you seen any of their movies? T Checks the meaning of losing weight and putting on weight. For which film they put on weight? For which film they lose weight? Ss try to give answers. ( T tells the names of actors and their movies) _ T puts Ss in pairs and they discuss their answers together. _T monitors and gives FB.

gist listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening task.

_T tells the Ss that they are going to listen to people talking about Christian Bale and Renee Zellweger. They have to number the photos in the order the people talk about them. _T checks Ss understanding with ICQ. _T plays the audio and puts the Ss in PW so they check their answers together. _T monitors and gives FB. _T shows the correct answers for the class.

Listening for details (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed exercise.

_T elicits the word doughnut.--> Is it sweet? What do you drink with it? _T shows some pictures from the listening and puts Ss in pairs to see if they can remember anything that has been said about them.--> what did the speakers say about these things? _T monitors and gives FB. _T replays the audio and presents some questions. _T asks the question from everyone, Ss check their answers and gives FB.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity for students to produce the TL, and give personalized answers.

_T gives 2 minutes to the Ss to think about what are good and bad things about losing and putting on weight. _Ss write their answers and discuss them for the whole class. _T gives FB. Praises the Ss.
