Description

This lesson is planned to help the students practice speaking and reading skills. The students will answer some questions related to the previous lesson to warm them up and review the adjectives of weather . In solo work , the students will complete the sentences with their opinions. Using the words in brackets.Then the students compare their answers in pairs. To review question words. The students put jumbled questions in order. The students start warm up for reading and completing a dialogue. The students listen to check their answers. The students start a semi controlled activity talking about storm chasers. The students start a free controlled activity for speaking about the weather in Turkey.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

On the board, the ss answer some questions about the weather. Instructions: With your partner answer these questions: How is the weather today? Do you love hot weather? Where is the best weather in Turkey? What's your favorite time of the year? (month) The students may see some photos about weather adjectives if they have any problem with the meaning.

Exposure (3-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

The ss complete sentences with their opinions. Instructions: Individually, complete the sentences with your opinion. Use the type of word in the brackets: I hate ---------------- days. (weather adjective). Demonstrate it The teacher highlights some sentences talking about weather such as, I love it when it's ------------. I love it when it's sunny. Why? Because I go to the beach. In pairs, ss talk using similar models.

Useful Language (3-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

The students review their knowledge to Question words through completing an activity. On the board, the teacher writes: Why? the reason for doing something. --------------? people ------------- ? time -------------? places -------------? things -------------? the way we do things (Who - How - Where - When - What) The T. gives instructions: Please, match the Question words with the suitable words.

A game (5-10 minutes) • To practice weather words , to use "it" and questions

SS sit in groups. A student chooses a place he would like to visit or I give him a place. The other students ask the student questions to guess the place. For example: Is it Africa? How is the weather in the winter? Is it ............?

Pre reading (2-3 minutes) • To guess the topic of the text

Through photos and having a look on text, the students show their ability to guess the topic before starting reading I will present these two words if the SS face a problem with them. - storm - chasing

While reading (5-10 minutes) • To read for details

The SS match the phrases with the text. Instructions: Match the phrases with the text, please. ( I chest it) After the SS finish, they listen to check their answers

Productive Task(s) (2-5 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice the speaking skill.

The ss practice speaking through answering some questions related to the previous reading text: The teacher writes some questions on the board and asks the SS to work in groups to speak about these questions. Do you have storm chasing in Turkey? Is storm chasing good or bad? and Why? Do you have festivals in Turkey at the beginning of seasons? If yes What happens? If No. Can you tell us about a country that has a carnival at the beginning of a season? tell your group.

Feedback and Error Correction ( If I noticed errors and have time) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I will write the sentences on the board the ss to correct them and say why.
