Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of Superlative Adjectives in the context of Travel.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The T will start the class with a short question displaying a few photographs in order to get all the students to engage, and observe their use of words and review the language they use to express their opinions.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The T will show a picture including 3 labelled areas and ask the students to describe the description of the heights of the building, whilst writing their answers on the IWB. "How would you describe these buildings with one word?"

Clarification (5-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The T will show the students the 'hidden rules' of adjectives transforming into superlatives so they can comprehend the difference between the meanings of the words.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The teacher will then provide a task that allows the students to see the differences of adjectives and superlatives which will enable me to review if they have comprehended what the T has taught them. Following the T will then provide a handout where the students will have to fill in the gaps and we will review their answers together if need be the T can correct them.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The Ss will be provided handouts to practice their new skill of superlatives adjectives, the teacher will demonstrate one/two examples, demo and ICQs. These handouts are PW activities. There will also be an exercise where they should identify the mistakes in the sentences. Then, they check the answers with the rest of the class.

Free Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Discuss what the Ss had written as their answers on the Superlative HO and why they had chosen the words they had written.
