In this lesson students will review and practise perfect tenses

Materials

Main Aims

  • To review and practise perfect tenses

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of achievements
  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about perfect tenses in the context of Achievements

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher shares with students the screen and will explain the task. Students will see a short video and answer the question Have the coyote catched the roadrunner? Why the coyote have felt happy?. After those questions, students will talk about their own achievements. Teacher will give a demo and then students will talk about on breakout rooms for 2 minutes. After that they will share their answers.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher will share screen so students can look to the next task. They will listen to the audio and order the pictures from 1 (first) to 3 (last) according to the audio on google slide. After that, students will share their answers with classmates on zoom chat and later all together.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher will share screen and show students the next task. The next exercise will be a guided discovery task, so teacher will give a demo by sharing screen and answering the first question with students. By giving a demo teacher will explain to the class that they will do this exercise in teams, first they have to listen again the audio and answer the first 3 questions. This will prepare students for MFAP part, learners will work on pairs on breakout rooms and finally they will share their answers on Open Class Feedback. Then altogether on a google slide shared by the teacher, students will find the linking, pronunciation, contractions, stress in the sentences.

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Teacher will share screen with students and give a demostration by doing with students the first exercise of the task. Then Individually they will answer the other questions and then share their answers on breakout rooms.

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher will share screen to the students and explain the conversation task. Teacher will give a demostration by practicing with one student before sending all the class on breakout rooms. Teacher will share a link for jamboard and there students will be able to see the role play activity. After that students will share the achievements of their classmates. (they will do this task with 2 different people)

Feedback and Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students production and use of language

Teacher will give students a google form and ask students to correct the sentences, they will do this task in teams, and later they will share in Open Class Feedback
